First of all we all should know that our behaviours during the day, and especially before bedtime, has a major impact on our sleep. Matthew Walker on his book, “Why we sleep” proves that sleeping well directly affects our mental and physical health. It can take a serious toll on our daytime energy, productivity, emotional balance, and even our weight. Yet many of us regularly toss and turn at night, struggling to get the sleep we need. Getting a good night’s sleep may seem like an impossible goal when you’re wide awake at 2 a.m., but you have much more control over the quality of your sleep than you probably realise.
Our daily routines – what we eat and drink, the medications we take, how we schedule our days and how we choose to spend our evenings – can significantly impact your quality of sleep. Don’t worry, even a few slight adjustments can mean the difference between sound sleep and a restless night.
If you have difficulty sleeping or want to improve your sleep, try following these healthy sleep habits.
- Don’t go to bed unless you are sleepy.
- If you don’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed.
- Exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet.
- Avoid consuming alcohol before bedtime.
- Establish a relaxing bedtime routine.
- Use your bed only for sleep and sex.
- Reduce your fluid intake before bedtime.
- Limit exposure to bright light in the evenings.
- Turn off electronic devices at least 30 minutes before bedtime.
- Don’t eat a large meal before bedtime. If you are hungry at night, eat a light, healthy snack.
- Avoid consuming caffeine in the late afternoon or evening.
- Make your bedroom quiet and relaxing. Keep the room at a comfortable, cool temperature.
- Keep a consistent sleep schedule. Get up at the same time every day, even on weekends or during vacations.
- Set a bedtime that is early enough for you to get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep.
As you can see in order to have a good night sleep one of the best things you can do before going to bed is establishing a consistent routine. This will set you up for a high quality sleep, and it’s a great way to reward yourself after a long and productive day. We have prepared a self care sleep routine that creates an ideal sanctuary for you and helps you build a healthy and useful habit before sleep.
Take the time and pamper yourself before sleep with our Ideal Sanctuary Self Care Gift Box and enjoy a sound sleep by following these simple steps:
When you’re ready, grab your Fancy Matches and let’s begin. Light up the soy candle and let the lavender scent nurture your senses as it calms your mind and sets a relaxing tone to your night. The simple minimal design with a luxury finish, make this zero waste candle fit into any style of home.
Gently grab your notebook and whenever you feel like, start reflecting on your day. Make sure to leave all your thoughts and worries on paper. This classic memory-keeper is the perfect way to track the ups and downs of life, day by day. Each page features space to jot down an idea or daily highlight on the same date over five years, allowing journalese to look back on years past as they capture the present.
Finally, get your gold silk eye mask and enjoy a luxurious good night’s sleep. This mask is helping with reducing stretching and tugging on the most delicate area of your face, and makes sure you wake up looking refreshed day after day.
We know how important it is to have a restful sleep in order to be productive and refreshed the next day.
